Advent Bags
We are preparing advent/Christmas bags for inmates at prison facilities in North Carolina, Danville, and in Green Rock Correctional Center in Chatham, VA. It's likely we won't be able to gather as a large group to assemble the bags in December, so we've decided to start now and work on it throughout the fall. You can sign up for a date and time to come by and help prepare bags on the right side and click Sign Up! You can also sign up to take things home to work on them.

Second Collection
The second collection for this upcoming weekend is for the Archdiocese of Military Services, which was created by Pope Saint John Paul II to provide the Catholic Church’s full range of pastoral ministries and spiritual services to those in the United States Armed Forces. March for Life Pilgrimage
Thursday, January 20th - Friday, January 21st, 2022
Join the Office for Evangelization on our Diocesan-wide pilgrimage to the annual March for Life in Washington, DC! The trip includes the Life Is VERY Good events at EagleBank Arena: Thursday night's Evening of Prayer and Friday morning's Youth Rally & Mass. DYC
Friday, February 11th - Sunday, February 13th 2022
The Diocesan Youth Conference (DYC) is an annual weekend event that gathers high school youth from Diocese of Richmond parishes in one central location.
DYC is a highly energetic and engaging opportunity for our high school teenagers to gather as a larger Church community and celebrate the richness of our Catholic faith. This year, we will only be allowed a limited number of participants. If you would like to attend, please speak with Joyce Bustamante as soon as possible.
Children's Liturgy
Children’s Liturgy of the Word is scheduled to begin on Sunday, November 14th. If you are interested in volunteering, please speak to Joyce Bustamante for English and Juana Ramirez for Spanish.

We currently need 1 lead catechist for Middle School age students and 2 assistant catechists for High School age students.

#iGiveCatholic and #GivingTuesday will be on November 30th this year. This year our goal is to raise $20,000 for the parish to re-wire, re-socket and restore the Madonna and Child sign with LED lights. Early giving begins November 15. Make a Difference Through Your IRA
As we near the Advent season, we hope you will consider making a charitable donation from your IRA to benefit our parish. If you are 72 or older, you can make your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) from your IRA straight to our parish. And there is a benefit to you: it is excluded from your adjusted gross income (AGI).

Family Faith Formation

SHCS Online Auction
The SHCS “School & Home Connection” team will be sponsoring an online auction to be held Thursday, November 11th through Sunday, November 14. Each homeroom is creating either a basket or wreath to auction off using an online platform! Specifics about the online link will be shared on the school website and on our Facebook page. Please share the flyer on our Facebook page! Tell your friends and neighbors! We will have some wonderful items up for bid!
SHCS Eat-Out Night
On Monday, November 15th from 5:00pm-8:00pm, Dell'Anno’s Pizza Kitchen on Main Street will host an Eat-Out Night to benefit our school. Just be sure to mention Sacred Heart School when ordering and paying.
Thanksgiving Break
The school will be closed from Monday, November 22nd -Friday, November 26th for Thanksgiving Break.

This year the church and school are teaming together to raise funds to preserve the iconic Madonna & Child 60ft. lighted sign located on the school gym. The sign needs electrical upgrades as well as LED light bulbs. Stay tuned for more details!

Box Tops for Education
We are still taking Box Tops! Box Tops for Education has a new app for attaining Box Top points. You can also go to BTFE.COM. They are still accepting clipped Box Tops and will continue to do so until products no longer have them on the packages. Labels may be left in the church or school office. These labels provide the school with free educational supplies.
Help SHCS, Help You!
Would you like to direct your Virginia State Taxes to Sacred Heart Catholic School? You can through the Virginia Education Improvement Scholarships Tax Credits program. Individuals or businesses making contributions of $500 or more can receive a Virginia TAX CREDIT equal to 65% of the donation. The monies are used for tuition assistance for students from families whose household income is less than 300% of the poverty level (for example, $72,900 for a family of 4), or 400% if the child is disabled. In addition, donors who itemize will also receive deductions for charitable contributions on state and federal taxes. Participants should consult their tax advisors to determine their specific tax savings. Individuals and businesses can receive substantial tax benefits by contributing through the EISTC program. Mass Times
Bishop Knestout and other bishops have decided to lift the dispensation of the Sunday and Holy Days Mass obligation in the Dioceses of Richmond, and will reinstate that obligation beginning on Saturday, June 26, 2021 and Sunday, June 27, 2021. We welcome and encourage the Faithful to return to full in-person participation of the Sunday Eucharist, the source and summit of our Catholic faith. This obligation does not apply to those who are ill; those who have reason to believe that they were recently exposed to the coronavirus, another serious or contagious illness; those who are confined to their home, a hospital, or nursing facility; or those with serious underlying health conditions. Dear Sacred Heart Parishioners:
This is just a friendly reminder as it has become more and more frequent that people are receiving fake emails requesting money, gift cards, etc. from someone pretending to be a person that you know. Unfortunately, many of these emails tend to come in the form of an email account pretending to be Fr. Anthony, other parish office personnel, or school personnel. While, the Diocesan I.T. Department has zero control over which email accounts are created, it’s important to identify these fake email accounts, and remember that Fr. Anthony (or any Diocesan employee for that matter) will not handle business through an email address that is not part of the Richmond Diocese domain (@richmonddiocese.org). This is also the case for any Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Sacred Heart Catholic School employee and our email domains (@sheartchurch.org and @sheartschool.com, respectively).
These scams continue to be perpetuated because they continue to work. We ask that you do not reply to such emails, click on links within those emails or download content in them. If you receive help requests that you think are legitimate, verify that the person is legitimate by calling them directly on another known valid number. Don’t ask the emailer for information or a call. Find an offline method of correspondence that you and that person have used in the past to talk with each other.

Christmas Poinsettias
We will be decorating the church with poinsettias for Christmas. If you would like to purchase a poinsettia in honor or in memory of someone, please submit a check payable to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in the amount of $16.00. Place the check along with your printed intention in an envelope and bring it by the parish office. The deadline for ordering is Thursday, December 17th. Thank you for always answering the call to help beautify our altar and sanctuary at Christmas, We could not do it without you!
