There will be 2 talks: one from 9:30 to 10:30 am, and another from 2:30 to 3:30 pm (40 minutes of presentation and 20 for Q&A).
The goal of the presentations is to share some of the wisdom the monastic tradition offers to grow in prayer. This is a practical approach, connected also to spiritual warfare. We will try to answer questions such as: How to listen to God in our fast-paced lives? What to do with distractions and temptations in prayer? What if nothing seems to happen when we pray? And, how to pray unceasingly—not only pray but become prayer? We will try to identify the main obstacles that prevent each one of us from growing in prayer, find ways to overcome these difficulties, and grow closer to Jesus.

Annual Diocesan Appeal
“What is love?” That phrase isn’t just the opening to an early ‘90s Eurodance song. It’s a question that the human heart has asked throughout history. Is it a feeling? A bond experienced between family and friends and romantic partners?
In Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus gives us the unique, Christian answer: love gives without counting the cost. It seeks the good of the other without looking for repayment in return. This is the kind of love that Jesus encourages His disciples to have, “for the measure with which you measure will in return be measured out to you.”
We’re called to love like this in all our relationships. With our spouse, our children, our coworkers, and with others in our community. If you’re looking for another concrete way to love—to give without counting the cost—consider contributing to our Annual Diocesan Appeal. Reread Sunday’s Gospel and see where the Lord leads you.

Wednesday Night Bible Study
This February 16th, the Wednesday Night Bible Study will change topic to Lectio: Prayer. The Bible Study Group meets on Wednesdays from 6 p.m.- 7 p.m. If you would be interested in joining the group, please click the Sign Up button.
Confirmation & First Holy Communion
This Sunday, February 20th, 1st Communion and Confirmation students will have class at 10:15 a.m.
Confirmation candidates must schedule an appointment with Fr. Anthony by the end of January. Confirmation candidates who have not turned in their sponsor form must turn it in as soon as possible.
Confirmation Mass will be held on Thursday, March 3rd at 7 p.m. We encourage all parishioners to attend.
Family Faith Formation
Most Wednesdays, 6:00 - 7:30 pm
Faith Formation is Catholic religious education for children in Pre-K3 through 12th grade.

Box Tops for Education
We are still taking Box Tops! Box Tops for Education has a new app for attaining Box Top points. You can also go to BTFE.COM. They are still accepting clipped Box Tops and will continue to do so until products no longer have them on the packages. Labels may be left in the church or school office. These labels provide the school with free educational supplies.
Help SHCS, Help You!
Would you like to direct your Virginia State Taxes to Sacred Heart Catholic School? You can through the Virginia Education Improvement Scholarships Tax Credits program. Individuals or businesses making contributions of $500 or more can receive a Virginia TAX CREDIT equal to 65% of the donation. The monies are used for tuition assistance for students from families whose household income is less than 300% of the poverty level (for example, $72,900 for a family of 4), or 400% if the child is disabled. In addition, donors who itemize will also receive deductions for charitable contributions on state and federal taxes. Participants should consult their tax advisors to determine their specific tax savings. Individuals and businesses can receive substantial tax benefits by contributing through the EISTC program. Mass Times
Bishop Knestout and other bishops have decided to lift the dispensation of the Sunday and Holy Days Mass obligation in the Dioceses of Richmond, and will reinstate that obligation beginning on Saturday, June 26, 2021 and Sunday, June 27, 2021. We welcome and encourage the Faithful to return to full in-person participation of the Sunday Eucharist, the source and summit of our Catholic faith. This obligation does not apply to those who are ill; those who have reason to believe that they were recently exposed to the coronavirus, another serious or contagious illness; those who are confined to their home, a hospital, or nursing facility; or those with serious underlying health conditions. Dear Sacred Heart Parishioners:
This is just a friendly reminder as it has become more and more frequent that people are receiving fake emails requesting money, gift cards, etc. from someone pretending to be a person that you know. Unfortunately, many of these emails tend to come in the form of an email account pretending to be Fr. Anthony, other parish office personnel, or school personnel. While, the Diocesan I.T. Department has zero control over which email accounts are created, it’s important to identify these fake email accounts, and remember that Fr. Anthony (or any Diocesan employee for that matter) will not handle business through an email address that is not part of the Richmond Diocese domain (@richmonddiocese.org). This is also the case for any Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Sacred Heart Catholic School employee and our email domains (@sheartchurch.org and @sheartschool.com, respectively).
These scams continue to be perpetuated because they continue to work. We ask that you do not reply to such emails, click on links within those emails or download content in them. If you receive help requests that you think are legitimate, verify that the person is legitimate by calling them directly on another known valid number. Don’t ask the emailer for information or a call. Find an offline method of correspondence that you and that person have used in the past to talk with each other.

Christmas Poinsettias
We will be decorating the church with poinsettias for Christmas. If you would like to purchase a poinsettia in honor or in memory of someone, please submit a check payable to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in the amount of $16.00. Place the check along with your printed intention in an envelope and bring it by the parish office. The deadline for ordering is Thursday, December 17th. Thank you for always answering the call to help beautify our altar and sanctuary at Christmas, We could not do it without you!
