We will be decorating the church with lilies for Easter. If you would like to purchase a Lily In Honor of, or In Memory of, someone, please fill out the form below and submit a check payable to Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Place the check, along with your form in an envelope in the offertory basket or bring it by the parish office. The deadline to order is Monday, April 11th.
Book Club
Please join us this week for our book discussion on "Life is Messy" with Matthew Kelly. This book is about putting our lives back together, and allowing ourselves to be put back together, when life doesn’t turn out as we expected it to. Based on his own heart-wrenching personal journals, Matthew Kelly shares how the worst three years of his life affected him, by exploring this question: Can someone who has been broken be healed and become more beautiful and more lovable than ever before?

CRS Rice Bowl
During Lent, we are called to give special attention to our relationship with God. Through opportunities to deepen our prayer, practice fasting and give alms, we meet our Lord and encounter our sisters and brothers around the world.
Make a donation to CRS Rice Bowl to help communities in Guatemala, Bangladesh, Rwanda and other countries overcome hunger and malnutrition. Your almsgiving will make a difference for families trying to escape poverty and thrive.

Calling All Volunteers
We are looking for volunteers to join together and make get well cards for our homebound parishioners. We will gather in the Mary Room on Wednesday, March 16th at 1pm.
Annual Diocesan Appeal
In Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus calls out an uncomfortable truth about our fallen human nature: we like to locate fault and blame outside ourselves. Jesus corrects this tendency, which is too often an excuse for ignoring our own need for conversion — our own need to produce good fruit.
Lent is a season dedicated to overcoming this “blame-shifting” tendency. It’s a season of self-reflection, repentance, and growth in our relationship with God. Our Lenten disciplines and practices give us a concrete opportunity to stop focusing on the perceived shortcomings of others, and to focus on making concrete acts of love and producing good fruit.
One discipline we’ve been focusing on this Lent is the practice of almsgiving. Being challenged to give to others doesn’t allow us to point fingers and highlight their shortcomings. It forces us to reflect on our own generosity and trust in the Lord. Rather than something scary, this should be a welcomed opportunity to be more fully converted to Christ. We have many concrete opportunities for almsgiving, including giving to our Annual Diocesan Appeal. Reread Christ’s parable about the fig tree and see what kind of good fruit he might be asking you to produce.
September Pilgrimage to St. John Paul II sites and Central Europe

Come and join a wonderful spiritual journey to Pope John Paul’s places in Poland’s Krakow and then to other inspiring places in Prague and Vienna. Our spiritual journey also includes places of St. Faustina, the saint of Divine Mercy. Our spiritual leaders include Fr. Danny Cogut, pastor of Salem’s Our Lady of Perpetual Help, and Fr. John David, pastor of Richmond’s St. Benedict.
Reservations are due now on March 31st with $500 deposit per person. Total cost per person for airfare, lodging and meals is $4,399 for double occupancy.
Especially for people from southern Virginia, we have an option to travel via the Charlotte airport, instead of Dulles.

First Holy Communion
This Sunday, March 20th, First Communion students will have class at 10:15 a.m.
The First Holy Communion retreat will be held on Saturday, April 23rd.
Family Faith Formation
Most Wednesdays, 6:00 - 7:30 pm
Faith Formation is Catholic religious education for children in Pre-K3 through 12th grade.
There will not be Family Faith Formation this Wednesday, March 16th. We will see you next Wednesday, March 23rd!

Box Tops for Education
We are still taking Box Tops! Box Tops for Education has a new app for attaining Box Top points. You can also go to BTFE.COM. They are still accepting clipped Box Tops and will continue to do so until products no longer have them on the packages. Labels may be left in the church or school office. These labels provide the school with free educational supplies.
Help SHCS, Help You!
Would you like to direct your Virginia State Taxes to Sacred Heart Catholic School? You can through the Virginia Education Improvement Scholarships Tax Credits program. Individuals or businesses making contributions of $500 or more can receive a Virginia TAX CREDIT equal to 65% of the donation. The monies are used for tuition assistance for students from families whose household income is less than 300% of the poverty level (for example, $83,250 for a family of 4), or 400% if the child is disabled. In addition, donors who itemize will also receive deductions for charitable contributions on state and federal taxes. Participants should consult their tax advisors to determine their specific tax savings. Individuals and businesses can receive substantial tax benefits by contributing through the EISTC program. Mass Times
Bishop Knestout and other bishops have decided to lift the dispensation of the Sunday and Holy Days Mass obligation in the Dioceses of Richmond, and will reinstate that obligation beginning on Saturday, June 26, 2021 and Sunday, June 27, 2021. We welcome and encourage the Faithful to return to full in-person participation of the Sunday Eucharist, the source and summit of our Catholic faith. This obligation does not apply to those who are ill; those who have reason to believe that they were recently exposed to the coronavirus, another serious or contagious illness; those who are confined to their home, a hospital, or nursing facility; or those with serious underlying health conditions. Dear Sacred Heart Parishioners:
This is just a friendly reminder as it has become more and more frequent that people are receiving fake emails requesting money, gift cards, etc. from someone pretending to be a person that you know. Unfortunately, many of these emails tend to come in the form of an email account pretending to be Fr. Anthony, other parish office personnel, or school personnel. While, the Diocesan I.T. Department has zero control over which email accounts are created, it’s important to identify these fake email accounts, and remember that Fr. Anthony (or any Diocesan employee for that matter) will not handle business through an email address that is not part of the Richmond Diocese domain (@richmonddiocese.org). This is also the case for any Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Sacred Heart Catholic School employee and our email domains (@sheartchurch.org and @sheartschool.com, respectively).
These scams continue to be perpetuated because they continue to work. We ask that you do not reply to such emails, click on links within those emails or download content in them. If you receive help requests that you think are legitimate, verify that the person is legitimate by calling them directly on another known valid number. Don’t ask the emailer for information or a call. Find an offline method of correspondence that you and that person have used in the past to talk with each other.

Christmas Poinsettias
We will be decorating the church with poinsettias for Christmas. If you would like to purchase a poinsettia in honor or in memory of someone, please submit a check payable to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in the amount of $16.00. Place the check along with your printed intention in an envelope and bring it by the parish office. The deadline for ordering is Thursday, December 17th. Thank you for always answering the call to help beautify our altar and sanctuary at Christmas, We could not do it without you!
