Advent Bags
We are preparing advent/Christmas bags for inmates at prison facilities in North Carolina, Danville, and in Green Rock Correctional Center in Chatham, VA.
You can sign up for a date and time to come by and help prepare bags by clicking Sign Up on the left!
Additionally, we are in need of these supplies for the bags:
- 500 blank mailing envelopes
- 1,077 Ramen noodle packs (not cups)
- 1,308 packets of hot chocolate
- 2,446 individual bags of pretzels or chips
- 937 soft peppermints (red & white stripes)
- 200 holy cards (not laminated)
- Used Christmas cards without glitter
If you took items to work on at home, please turn them in as soon as possible!
Virgin Mary and St. Joseph Figures
Join the Virgin Mary and St. Joseph as they travel to Bethlehem this Advent season! For the next 4 Sundays, we will place the porcelain figures you see to the right somewhere in the church. If you find them, take a picture of them (without moving them!), post it on Facebook, and tag either of our Facebook pages to enter in a drawing for a prize!
Second Collection
The second collection for this upcoming weekend is for maintenance and improvement around the church. Thank you for your financial support and generosity!
You can make your contributions by giving online or through the GivePlus mobile app. You can also drop off your envelopes at the church!
Angel Tree
The angel tree and ornaments are in the commons! Please be sure that once you have selected an ornament, you write your name and phone number on the sheets provided on the table near the tree. Please be sure to write the tag number that you selected as well.
Please have your gift(s) to the church no later than Wednesday, December 15, 2021, by 2 PM. Make sure you wrap your gift(s) and secure the Angel to the outside of the gift(s) by the loop so that both sides can be read. Distribution of the Christmas gifts will be on Sunday, December 19, 2021, at 2 PM. We will need volunteers to assist with delivering these presents to families. Those families that choose a food basket, we are asking that you provide non-perishable foods and other necessities such as toile paper, toothpaste, soap, etc. Please do not purchase a ham or turkey, instead purchase a gift card from the grocery store for the ham and turkey. TOMORROW IS THE DAY! #iGiveCatholic will be live and donations have already begun. Our goal is $20,000 this year for restoration of the Madonna and Child sign. We have currently raised $6,850. For every donation received between 7am and 9am, Sacred Heart will be entered into a drawing to receive $350. For every donation received between 11am and 1pm, we'll be entered into a drawing for a whopping $700! And for every donation received between 5pm and 7pm, we'll be eligible to win $350. March for Life Pilgrimage
Thursday, January 20th - Friday, January 21st, 2022
Join the Office for Evangelization on our Diocesan-wide pilgrimage to the annual March for Life in Washington, DC! The trip includes the Life Is VERY Good events at EagleBank Arena: Thursday night's Evening of Prayer and Friday morning's Youth Rally & Mass. DYC
Friday, February 11th - Sunday, February 13th 2022
The Diocesan Youth Conference (DYC) is an annual weekend event that gathers high school youth from Diocese of Richmond parishes in one central location.
DYC is a highly energetic and engaging opportunity for our high school teenagers to gather as a larger Church community and celebrate the richness of our Catholic faith. This year, we will only be allowed a limited number of participants. If you would like to attend, please speak with Joyce Bustamante as soon as possible.

We currently need 1 lead catechist for Middle School age students and 2 assistant catechists for High School age students.

During this time of giving, a distribution from your IRA is a great way to give back to the Church! Did you know: if you are 72 or older, you can make your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) from your IRA straight to our parish.

#iGiveCatholic and #GivingTuesday
#iGiveCatholic and #GivingTuesday will be held on November 30, 2021. This year the church and school are teaming together to raise $20,000.00 to preserve the iconic Madonna & Child 60ft. lighted sign located on the school gym. The sign needs to be re-wired, re-socketed, and have LED lights installed.
Christmas Parade
SHCS will participate in the Danville Riverview Rotary Club Christmas Parade on Saturday, December 4 at 5:00pm. Please cheer for us along the parade path down Main Street.
EISTC Deadline
The deadline to submit paperwork for the 2021 Education Improvement Scholarships Tax Credits (EISTC) is December 23. Donations must be postmarked by December 31st. Please contact Donna Comper if you have questions.

Box Tops for Education
We are still taking Box Tops! Box Tops for Education has a new app for attaining Box Top points. You can also go to BTFE.COM. They are still accepting clipped Box Tops and will continue to do so until products no longer have them on the packages. Labels may be left in the church or school office. These labels provide the school with free educational supplies.
Help SHCS, Help You!
Would you like to direct your Virginia State Taxes to Sacred Heart Catholic School? You can through the Virginia Education Improvement Scholarships Tax Credits program. Individuals or businesses making contributions of $500 or more can receive a Virginia TAX CREDIT equal to 65% of the donation. The monies are used for tuition assistance for students from families whose household income is less than 300% of the poverty level (for example, $72,900 for a family of 4), or 400% if the child is disabled. In addition, donors who itemize will also receive deductions for charitable contributions on state and federal taxes. Participants should consult their tax advisors to determine their specific tax savings. Individuals and businesses can receive substantial tax benefits by contributing through the EISTC program. Mass Times
Bishop Knestout and other bishops have decided to lift the dispensation of the Sunday and Holy Days Mass obligation in the Dioceses of Richmond, and will reinstate that obligation beginning on Saturday, June 26, 2021 and Sunday, June 27, 2021. We welcome and encourage the Faithful to return to full in-person participation of the Sunday Eucharist, the source and summit of our Catholic faith. This obligation does not apply to those who are ill; those who have reason to believe that they were recently exposed to the coronavirus, another serious or contagious illness; those who are confined to their home, a hospital, or nursing facility; or those with serious underlying health conditions. Dear Sacred Heart Parishioners:
This is just a friendly reminder as it has become more and more frequent that people are receiving fake emails requesting money, gift cards, etc. from someone pretending to be a person that you know. Unfortunately, many of these emails tend to come in the form of an email account pretending to be Fr. Anthony, other parish office personnel, or school personnel. While, the Diocesan I.T. Department has zero control over which email accounts are created, it’s important to identify these fake email accounts, and remember that Fr. Anthony (or any Diocesan employee for that matter) will not handle business through an email address that is not part of the Richmond Diocese domain (@richmonddiocese.org). This is also the case for any Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Sacred Heart Catholic School employee and our email domains (@sheartchurch.org and @sheartschool.com, respectively).
These scams continue to be perpetuated because they continue to work. We ask that you do not reply to such emails, click on links within those emails or download content in them. If you receive help requests that you think are legitimate, verify that the person is legitimate by calling them directly on another known valid number. Don’t ask the emailer for information or a call. Find an offline method of correspondence that you and that person have used in the past to talk with each other.

Christmas Poinsettias
We will be decorating the church with poinsettias for Christmas. If you would like to purchase a poinsettia in honor or in memory of someone, please submit a check payable to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in the amount of $16.00. Place the check along with your printed intention in an envelope and bring it by the parish office. The deadline for ordering is Thursday, December 17th. Thank you for always answering the call to help beautify our altar and sanctuary at Christmas, We could not do it without you!
