So, how can we make this happen?
1. We need youth applications
2. We need adult chaperone applications
What are the requirements for adult chaperones?
For this event, we recommend 1 adult chaperone for every 6 youth who are participating in the Work Camp. Adult chaperones are responsible for looking out for the well-being of youth participants both at the parish and at the work sites. Knowledge of home improvement is not needed to serve in this role. Because of the work we will be doing, adults should be able to work in environments that do not have air conditioning, be able to lift light-weight items, and be able to drive. Other tasks to be done may include preparing lunch one day or preparing for a Work Camp-specific Eucharistic Adoration time. Chaperones must be 21 years old before the beginning of Work Camp.
Each adult chaperone must be in compliance with the Diocesan Safe Environment Policies, which includes completing the following:
- Screening One (every 5 years)
- VIRTUS training
Do adult chaperones need to be licensed contractors?
No, we do not need to have any licensed construction contractors. In the event, work opportunities become available in which power tools will be used, we will need to have an adult chaperone who has experience with power tools to complete a contractor application. This application is submitted to the diocese showing work history and power tool experience. This chaperone does not need to be a licensed contractor, but needs to be able to teach youth proper power tool handling and safety requirements.
